Boxed wines

Bag-in-box is probably the smartest format on a boat. No glass breaking at the first heel, no bulky empties to store until the next stopover, and a vacuum pouch that keeps the wine from oxidising for weeks after opening.

It is the ideal format for a crew that does not finish a bottle each meal, for long cruises and for charters where wine is served by the glass. Litre for litre it is also noticeably cheaper and lighter than the same wine in bottles.

Stow it flat at the coolest point of the boat: boxed wine copes badly with sustained heat, even more so than glass.
